In Pursuit of an Equitable Future, AKP2I Applauds the Implementation of the Taxpayer Charter

Jakarta – Located at the Cakti Buddhi Bhakti (CBB) Auditorium of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) Headquarters, the DGT officially launched the Taxpayers' Charter as an important milestone in strengthening the relationship between the state and taxpayers. The launch was led by Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto and witnessed by leaders of the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), taxpayer representatives, academics, tax consultants, and other stakeholders.

In response, AKP2I Chairman Suherman Saleh expressed his organization's positive welcome for the launch and joint declaration of the 8 Rights and 8 Obligations of Taxpayers.

"The involvement of AKP2I in this joint declaration is proof that the association's partnership has been accepted and recognized by the DGT. Moreover, AKP2I has always played an active role in providing education, assistance, and actions that help the DGT in assisting taxpayers in finding solutions to their tax issues. Therefore, this activity is also a source of pride and joy for AKP2I," he said in an official statement on Tuesday (07/22).

He added that the declaration of the 8 Rights and 8 Obligations of Taxpayers is a long-awaited step. According to him, taxpayers have long felt unequal and under pressure from tax officials.

“Today, I see what is happening in Japan, Europe, America, and Australia, now taking place in Indonesia. Here, it is evident that taxpayers and tax officials have equality before the law; they must not pressure each other, cause harm to each other, or consider themselves superior before the law. This is a remarkable breakthrough that we must appreciate,” he added.

He continued that the launch of the Taxpayer Charter is a bold and courageous undertaking by the new Director General of Taxes.

“I see this as an extraordinary act of courage because it means that the DGT has dared to eliminate the attitude of superiority and dominance that has long existed between the tax authorities and taxpayers. But today, taxpayers are elevated to a higher position and must be respected by tax officials,” he added.

For your information, the Taxpayer Charter is contained in Director General of Taxation Regulation Number PER-13/PJ/2025, which is an official document that explicitly sets out the rights and obligations of taxpayers as stipulated in tax legislation.

The charter contains eight taxpayer rights, including the right to information, free services, justice, legal protection, and data confidentiality. On the other hand, there are also eight taxpayer obligations, including the obligation to submit tax returns honestly, cooperate in supervision, and refrain from giving gratuities to DGT employees.

To support this, Suherman will provide an in-depth socialization program related to the explanation of these 8 rights and obligations through seminars and meetings with AKP2I members.

“Therefore, one of the main obligations of the Chairman of AKP2I is to immediately socialize this by inviting the DGT Public Relations to be a resource person. So, what was declared by the Director General of Taxes must be conveyed immediately because it is an ethical revolution that must be carried out by tax consultants, taxpayers, and tax officials with the same goal that taxes can be the backbone of development,” he said.

Not only that, he also hopes that with the implementation of the 8 Rights and 8 Obligations of Taxpayers, taxpayers can pay taxes comfortably and tax officials can also collect taxes while respecting the rights and obligations of taxpayers.

"The law is clear, we just have to implement it.  Therefore, with this pledge, I hope that taxpayers will feel more comfortable, appreciated, honored, and needed so that they will pay taxes willingly because paying taxes is an obligation for citizens and also an obligation as Muslims. Hopefully, today's pledge by the Director General of Taxes will make Indonesia more resilient, because Indonesia has generated growing tax revenue. Tax Growth, Resilient Indonesia is the happiness of the Indonesian people," he concluded.
